Femmes Vocales

Rehearsals: Tuesday from 4.30-6pm

With about 70 members, the Femmes Vocales is specially tailored for women over 50 and brings together several generations who all have one thing in common: the joy of singing.

The University of Vienna has about 7,000 senior students, mainly women, deepening their interests during retirement. The repertoire, which ranges from renaissance to operetta, has developed to suit the more mature voice with its warm and rich sound, especially in the alto sections, an effect difficult to obtain with younger voices.

The choir has performed not only in Austria, but also in Italy, Poland, and, most recently, the United States, where two weeks saw them in Boston, Chicago and New York; the highlight being a concert in that city's St. Patrick's Cathedral.  In October 2007 the choir sang the opening of the international festival "Octobre Musicale" in Tunis. In May 2009 a concert tour to Brittany and Paris was accomplished.

In April 2010 the choir undertook a concert tour to the Provence and sang concerts in Avignon and Aix-en- Provence.

All voices are being accepted!
